Tash didn’t arrive until nearly three o’clock and I was beginning to think that she’d changed her mind about moving in. Whilst I was thinking this, I couldn’t decide whether I was pleased about it or not. I’d just starting getting on my own nerves by over-thinking it all when the doorbell rang and she arrived.

I opened the front door and there she was with two giant suitcases; she said she’d got a mate to give her a lift in his car and she’d only brought clothes with her for now. I was annoyed with myself because if I hadn’t been thinking about her changing her mind and whether I was pleased about it or not, I’d have seen who dropped her off because I’d been looking out of the window every five minutes before that. She said she still had more stuff to bring but would get it over the next few weeks. I hid my surprise because all of my clothes wouldn’t even fill one suitcase, let alone two.

We struggled down the hall with them and I helped her unpack it all and put it away. By the time we’d finished my clothes were crammed into a quarter of the wardrobe and hers filled the rest. She couldn’t fit all the other stuff in two drawers so she piled it up in the bottom of the wardrobe and put all of her shoes in the hall cupboard where I keep the vacuum cleaner. I don’t really do clutter because I don’t have that much stuff so aside from the vacuum the cupboard was almost empty. It’s full now; Tash must have brought twenty pairs of shoes with her which she said is only half of what she owns. She did stack them in there neatly though, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem; I can live with that.

After we’d put everything away and put the suitcases underneath the bed, I made us a cup of tea and we sat in the kitchen. I really wanted to know who the mate was that had dropped her off in his car but couldn’t think of a way of finding out without actually asking. I also wanted to know if she went out clubbing last night but ditto; I’m going to have to get over this wanting to know because it’s not important, is it?

We sat and drank our tea and Tash chatted away like she does and then she asked if I had any biscuits and I said no – I never buy them, Mimi’s custard cream phase put me off for life – and then Tash asked what we were going to have for tea tonight. I normally have a sandwich because I’ve lost my appetite for cooked food since I’ve been at the chippy. Even before that my cooking only consisted of egg on toast or scrambled eggs. Tash surprised me then by saying that she likes to cook. She said if I had the ingredients, she’d cook us a lasagne for tea or a Spaghetti Bolognese.
