Christine’s mother and grandmother kept talking in the living room about people whose names she didn’t recognize. The news came on the TV and there were different people telling the stories at her grandmother’s house different than the people who told stories on the news at home. The girl’s father and uncle were talking and laughing again even louder than before and they were starting to swear. Her grandmother suddenly looked serious.

‒ Let’s get some supper going it’s later than I thought her grandmother said.
