Arabella
âDinner was outstanding,â Justin Hollinsworth said as he pulled out a chair that Cole had just vacated.
âIt was new. Better than last yearâs dinner. I think you found your planner.â Dylan Truex leaned back in his seat, spreading his legs out as he simultaneously tried to pull his violet tie away from his neck.
Arabella tried not to stare, but come on. Dylan Truex. She followed him on social media and oh man, he was hot. Meeting him in person though, while still hot, made her feel more like a stalker and less attracted to him. It was different when you could just tap a heart up quickly as a like. Sitting two chairs away from the man made him more than a guy with #TheV along his pelvisâthose muscles that dipped low into his waistband forming a V.
âI knew her in high school. Weâll see if it becomes permanent. Sheâs already led me to believe someone else was in charge and I just found out from one of my managers that the woman whom I thought was in charge is actually just her assistant.â
Arabella couldnât resist commenting, immediately wanting to play devilâs advocate for the unknown, but clearly talented, party planner. âMaybe she was afraid you wouldnât give her a chance if you knew it was her from your past. Especially if there was a rocky road there or things were left unsettled between you two.â
She glanced quickly at Jax, hoping he wasnât offended that she spoke even when no one asked what her specific opinion was. Old habits. Derrek would have already been squeezing her leg under the table, thinking she was embarrassing him.
Jax just smiled. âHit the nail on the head there, Bro.â
Justin took a drink from his tumbler and Arabella waited for the negative remark she was hoping she wasnât going to get from him. Particularly a mind-your-own-business kind of remark. But he set his glass down and forced a fake smile. She knew. She glanced at the table, thinking they could all see the fake smile if they were his real friends. Michael and his fiancée. Zander Morgan who was flying solo. Jax. Then of course Dylan Truex. Justinâs date hadnât ventured over to the table with him.
âItâs something like that. Still pisses me off she wasnât upfront though. What other things would she be sneaky about if she was about this minor thing?â Justin asked.
Dylan spoke up. âWhatever the situation was, it clearly wasnât a minor thing to her. And honestly Bro, give the poor planner the benefit of the doubt. If she owns the business maybe she had her assistant handle shit cause she was busy making the money. You have an assistant. I have Cam. We all need help. Itâs no different.â Dylan glanced around the ballroom and the dinner table that had already been cleared. âSheâs a lot better than the last planner and you know it. Give her a chance.â
Justin looked like he wanted to say something but instead his mouth formed a thin line.
