Chapter 6
In the car, Tony was quiet. He had started the engine, but they hadnât moved. The radio was on soft jazz musicâsaxophones, which she liked. Too bad Tony seemed to have lost his good mood as he sat there in silent thought.
âIâm sorry about Caroline,â he finally said.
âNo harm done. She needed to talk to you about your son. Thatâs an important matter.â
âThereâs nothing wrong with Hunter. She didnât come over to talk about him. What she wanted was to make you miserable. I hope you donât feel that way.â
âMaybe a little,â Laura said. âHowever, my ex is very good-looking, too, but that doesnât mean I want him back in my life.â
âRight,â Tony agreed.
âIs that true for you and Caroline?â
âYeah,â Tony saidâand he grabbed her and kissed her. She felt his warm lips on hers, and she responded, heat consuming her body as it always did when he touched her. Her arms went around him, and she caressed the hair at the nape of his neck. His hands inflamed her body, and she ached to feel them on her naked skinâbut not in a car, and not in a parking lot. And not yet. Itâs too soon, isnât it?
âTony?â she said when she could speak.
âCome home with me tonight.â
Lauraâs stomach flip-flopped. She couldnâtânot with him. What would it mean? The end of everything?
âI want to make love to you,â he said. âItâs driving me crazy.â
âIâm just a challenge to you.â
âYou seem to like Christmas lights. My house has some pretty impressive lighting.â
Before she could think too much about it, Laura said, âOkay.â
Tony kissed her lightly on the lips, put the car in gear, and drove away. Lauraâs heart raced. What am I doing? I canât do this. She was on her way to Tonyâs house. In only a few minutes, it seemed, Tony drove through a gated entrance. The houses were hugeâand all of them were decorated for Christmas on a grand scale.
âOh, my! Itâs so beautiful.â
âYeah, the neighbors go all out,â he said. His house was three blocks down from the entrance, on a corner lot, and decorated in light blue and clear lights.
âDid you do this?â she inquired.
âNo, I hired some people.â
âWell, it looks amazing. Iâve always wanted to decorate outside, but I donât know how.â
He got out of the car and strode around to help her out. âLetâs go inside.â
Laura refused to think about what she was doing as she went with Tony to the front door of his house.
Inside the entrance, she caught only a glimpse of the darkened living room before he caressed her neck with his lips. She shivered with anticipation.
âDo you want something to drink?â he asked.
âNo,â she said. âJust kiss me again.â
Tony bent his head and kissed her while his hands roamed her body. âCome this way.â
He led her up the stairs off the entryway and to a room at the end of the hall.
âI like your dress,â he said. âBut now Iâd like to see whatâs under it.â
Laura pulled the
