Gayathri doubled up in laughter. I paused the movie and said, ‘Rajni is an amazing guy, Gayathri. In fact, I just got an assignment to work with him to determine the theme for his next movie. I am really looking forward to it.’

She said, ‘Great, I can see the enthusiasm in your eyes.’

The movie rolled. I looked much more comfortable lying on the couch now. Gayathri asked, ‘What is your favourite movie and why?’

‘When I was at IIT, we watched a movie called Tina ki Jawani. It was a C-grade movie, specially screened for students like us and other perverts. After watching the movie, we talked about it for months and even wrote articles about it. It is not my favourite movie, but a funny one, and one that brings back fond memories. I think Sholay is a great movie too. I cried when Amitabh died. Recently, I watched Rajni’s movie Endhiran. It is mindless and is meaningless entertainment. For those three hours you completely de-stress and enjoy yourself.’

‘Which weather do you like the most?’

‘Nothing like winter. You can have a nice round of Scotch, a nice smoke and it is fun to make love in such weather. Meera and I celebrated our first year anniversary in Mussoorie; it was cold and nice. We lit up the fireplace and made love on the carpet. That bloody carpet had not been vacuumed in ages and both of us ended up with severe rashes and we left the very next day. On reaching home Narayana Swamy asked, “Carpet allergy?” Meera nodded. He looked at me as if I was the rash. I retreated quietly. Cold weather means carpet allergy. Thank you. Next question please.’ My life must be seeming like one big comedy to Gayathri.

‘What kind of dreams do you get?’

‘Usually I don’t dream much because of my workload. By the time I get to bed, I am dead beat. But when I do dream, they are usually nice. That I am exploring new places, that I am seeing beautiful scenery or something like that. Actually, I can barely remember dreams.’

I had had enough of Confessions of a Consulting Partner. I paused the movie and said, ‘Gayathri, I must go now.’

‘Just a few more minutes, we are almost done.’

I pressed play. ‘If you disliked somebody who would it be?’

I smirked. ‘Take a wild guess.’

‘Narayana Swamy?’

‘Full marks!’

She looked at her notes and said, ‘Do you want to give me any further details?’

‘I already explained. I think he also follows me everywhere I go. He is intrusive and invasive. I have even employed a detective agency to find if he is following me. But that detective turned to be a complete nincompoop and I had to fire him.’

‘You employed a detective agency to find out if your father-in-law was stalking you?’

‘Yeah, I was beginning to feel harassed.’

She made a note of it. The movie continued to roll. Gayathri asked, ‘What do you imagine when you make love?’

‘But where are we making any love for
