Chapter 18
Quinn
After being held captive with my hands bound and my eyes covered, I was submissive enough to prove I was no threat to my captor. One morning he walked into my room, bent over me, and lifted the blindfold from my face. My eyes were assaulted by brightness. I blinked against the harsh light, trying to recover my sense of equilibrium. My captor stood in front of me waiting for me to see again.
I assumed I wasn’t the first person he had kidnapped because he waited patiently for me to finally look at him.
“There, isn’t this much better?” he asked almost mocking my circumstance.
Not wanting to anger him I answered, “Yes.”
As I suspected, he was an older gentleman. He wore a business suit and had a full head of silver hair. He wasn’t an unattractive man, but still hideously ugly. His intentions were what made him so monstrous. Again, I was nauseous and perhaps seasick, but I worried more I might be pregnant. I had a feeling my body was changing. It was too soon to tell, and I was terrified most of the time, so I had no real basis for my assumption other than my intuition. It was enough though to make me want to protect myself even more than ever. I was going to be as pleasant as possible until I could make my escape.
I needed to tread the thin line between total acceptance of his treachery and defiance. My vision was fuzzy and disorienting, but I began to see the room with greater clarity. I was in a tiny cell-like room. The walls were made of riveted metal, and I was lying on a cot, much smaller than a twin-sized bed. There wasn’t much else in the room, a small table, and a chair, barely enough space to fit three people. The room didn’t have a window, and so I had no way of knowing if it was night or day. The revelation of the room made me even more terrified and confused. One naked bulb hung overhead and provided a garish, blinding light. I assumed he had unveiled the room to me because I’d become too complacent. Since I hadn’t broken any of his rules enough to earn a punishment, he was stepping up his game.
I moved my fingers around trying to get the circulation moving to them again. Periodically they went numb as the bindings had never been removed. They were tight enough to cut the skin and so uncomfortable it made it hard for me to sleep. Though, I wouldn’t likely sleep well with them off either.
“And what about these?” He surprised me by tugging on the ropes binding my hands.
“They are uncomfortable,” I said in a flat monotone.
“Want them off?” he asked.
“Yes, please,” I whispered.
“What would you do for me to take them off?”
Damn it, an ultimatum. I’d rather suffer with them than do anything for him.
“They’re fine.” I backtracked.
“I’ll leave your hands then,” he said in a cold business-like tone. “You’ve been quite lucky.
