On April 26, Gillett filed for a personal protection order in Wayne County court.

“I am very concerned about my safety in and around my home due to the harassment of Bob Bashara,” Gillett wrote in a statement to the court.

She said she had told him repeatedly that she wanted to discontinue their relationship and asked him to stop contacting her, yet he had persisted via email, phone, and through friends and personal visits.

“He is deliberate enough to drive different vehicles when he comes to my house and will park on nearby streets rather than in front of my house . . . Bob Bashara repeatedly contacts me although I have consistently told him that I do not want to have any contact with him at all.”

She told the court that his behavior was intimidating, and she added that “the fact that his wife was found strangled terrifies me because I think that it could happen to me. He knows that I am a potential witness for the prosecution for the case regarding Jane Bashara’s murder and I am afraid of what might happen to me if he is charged. Also, he has consistently stated that if I were to move, he will find me.”

The order was granted the same day.

The order was served to Bashara at Middlesex. He called Griem—another fire to put out—and asked that he talk to the media.

“My client has not been in contact with her. We have not seen the proposed personal protection order,” Griem told a local radio station. He was relying on Bashara’s word. “Anybody can walk in, make allegations, and attempt to get a personal protection order.”

Griem also included Rachel among those who might have killed Jane. Maybe she was filing the order to deflect Bashara’s people.

“Our investigators have developed several persons of interest in our search for the truth,” Griem said. “I would indicate to you that Rachel Gillett is one of those persons of interest that we have developed.”
