Chapter 14

MIAMI - The Canadian Customs Learjet began its decent into Miami. The three passengers had rested during the flight. Andy was reading as Jack began to gradually wake and rub the sleep out of his eyes. Dalia still slept as the jets Captain informed the guests to prepare for their landing. Jack looked over at Dalia and lightly tapped her on the shoulder. Dalia slept soundly and was dreaming of that warm Caribbean night once again, tortured by her past, hearing a faint shot of a pistol and then suddenly she awoke.

"Dalia are you OK?" Jack said softly with his hand on her shoulder.

"OK...sure I'm OK." said Dalia in a startled yet saddened tone.

"Same dreams?" inquired Jack.

"The same dreams that I feel will end my days. Are we landing?" asked Dalia.

"Listen you two. We land and meet General Swanson at his beach home. You'll have no time to waste getting into Cuba." said Andy.

"Will you be coming?" said Jack.

"No. I'll stay at the Colonel's house with a couple other agents and we'll monitor your progress from there. We'll continue to work on the family's name... of the people that brought up Dalia's son. We'll also see if we can find anything new on Victor Mendoza." Andy paused "Where ever he is? He's made no contact since arriving in Cuba. Someone has to dig around and find information quickly as to make your life easier in finding young Castillo once you arrive in Baracoa." said Andy.

The Learjet started to land, the landing gear was loud and the wheels made a large squealing sound as they touched the warm pavement of the runway. The jet landed and taxied. It made a direct route for the U.S. Customs hanger, away from the main passenger terminals of Miami International Airport. The morning sun was bright and had just crept out of its overnight slumber and shown vibrantly on the blue crystal clear sky. The large hanger doors started to slide open as the Learjet followed the painted yellow strip on the concrete and straight down the center of the hanger doors. Inside the hanger doors was a small group of people huddled, waiting and talking amongst themselves. Jack looked out the window and immediately recognized the bald headed, slightly pot bellied, mid sized frame of General Swanson. Swanson stood in khaki pants and a black t-shirt with his hands on his hips. Not much had changed about Swanson other than his hair was no longer spun around his head and his skull was now clean shaven.

The Learjet came to a stop and the cabin door opened. The three passengers quickly exited the cabin and made their way down the stairs and onto the hanger floor. Andy led Jack and Dalia towards retired General Swanson's group of four.

"Bennett...you haven't changed a bit! Great to see you son!" exclaimed an excited Swanson as he threw his arms around Jack.

"General! It's been way too long my friend!" said a gleeful Jack.

"Well Bennett, I always thought the next time I saw you it would be some sort of reunion party or something like that.
