Agha Haji opens the front door. A man gets out of the car and walks up to him. One of the guards stands a short distance away.

“I thought you should know as soon as possible,” the man says. “The news will spread tomorrow. They’ve given the go-ahead for the assassinations. They stabbed the guy forty, fifty times. Did the same to his wife.”

“Why his wife?”

“I don’t know. The secret service does its own investigations. They don’t breathe a word to us. What do you think?”

Agha Haji is silent for a few moments. Then, “Regardless of our sentiments, we should not take sides. We will not voice disapproval; we will not approve either…. they are in power. It is better that we remain silent.”
