“’Kay, lamb. Jo’s gonna hold you still for me, and I’m gonna get my whole self inside. We’re going to make you fit me. I’ll go slow,” he promised, and I felt him pushing harder, stretching me even more. Jo wrapped one arm around me, to support me, not to hold me tight, and the other he sank between my legs to start playing with my clit. I whined and arched up at that, and Reeve made an accommodating sound. “Fuck,” he whispered. “Even if I can only fuck you right here, lamb, I feel so good,” he said, sliding himself gently in and out, at this new and deeper point, making me bite back a fresh groan.

“That’s a lie and you know it,” Jo said from beneath me, with a taunt in his voice. “Reeve can’t walk away from a challenge.”

“Oh, I’ll get there,” Reeve said, balancing all his weight on one arm, so he could use his free hand to cup my chin. “But it doesn’t have to be tonight.”

Implying there’d be other nights, just like this, where I’d be taken apart by the two of them and then put back together again piece by piece. And maybe it was the pressure of Reeve inside of me, or the scab my recent orgasm must’ve pulled off, but I started crying.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Reeve said, instantly pulling out of me.

“What did you do?” Jo said, protectively, holding me as we sat up.

“Nothing—nothing extra—lamb—are you all right?” Reeve’s big hands patted the air in front of him, him not knowing what to do. “Can I touch you?”

It was all the tears I’d been holding back, for who really knew how long. I nodded, and Reeve rushed in and grabbed us, holding me and Jo together, crushing us against his chest.

“It’s a lot, lamb. I know. But it’s okay. We’ve got you,” Reeve said, and Jo murmured his assent.

“We didn’t mean to push you so hard—we just wanted you so much,” Josiah, breathing his words on my neck.

“It’s . . . not . . . that . . .” I sobbed out, wiping my tears on Reeve’s white T-shirt. It was so much more that I couldn’t put into words, and even if I could, all it would do would make them both run off.

“Where’s this ex-boyfriend of yours?” Jo asked. “Because I’ll kill him.”

“I got his address off the reg card in the Maserati’s glovebox,” Reeve said, the two of them planning murder right above my head.

“No—don’t,” I said, and wriggled, until they gave me space to breathe. If only Reeve could’ve kept his sweet words to himself—even if he was fucking lying—I just couldn’t bear to hear it. “It’s that . . .” I began and took a huge gulp of air in, because saying it out loud felt like wishing it was true. “I’ve got multiple myeloma. It’s a kind of cancer—it’s pretty bad. I’m young for it, so when I got diagnosed, it was really far along.”

Jo squeezed me tighter and thumped his cheek against my back.
