Congratulations! You have leveled up! You are now a level 22 Monster Trainer.
âYou leveled up?â Dom asked as he walked beside me.
âI guess so,â I shrugged, clicking back to the main screen of my Trainer Device.
âOf course, you leveled up,â Grayson chimed in. âYou kicked some serious ass the other day.â
It was another gorgeous day in Aguila. The yellow sun smiled down on us, heating up the city carved from the red stones and the citizens who called it home. We stopped by a little stand selling grilled and spiced meat and some deliciously cold apple cider on the way back to the Academy.
After getting our food and drinks, we decided to sit in a little courtyard with some chairs and tables set up for anyone who wanted to take a rest in the afternoon sun. We happily ate delicious meats, ripping them off the wooden skewers and taking long draughts of the refreshingly sweet cider.
Once we had finished our food, we were all kind of lazing around, half-snoozing in the warm weather matched with a cool breeze blowing through the valley when Abigail randomly sat up straight in her chair. âOh! Rusty! We have something important to tell you!â
I peeked my eyes open at her, but when she finished her sentence, I sat up, too. âOh yeah!â
âYou have something to tell me?â Rusty asked, dramatically placing his hand on his chest like he was a very surprised, very important person.
âYouâre never going to believe this. None of you are,â I bubbled, feeling giddy.
âWhat is it?â Claudette asked, sitting up in her chair with a confused smile on her face.
I glanced from Penny to Abigail. âWho wants to start?â
Penny looked like she was about to burst, but she didnât give everything away just yet. âSo, we went to our Desert Expeditions class the other day, right?â
âWhile our teacher gave us the intro lecture, I couldnât help but feel like she really reminded me of someone,â Abigail recounted.
âShe kind of reminded me of somebody too, but I couldnât quite put my finger on it at first,â I added.
âTyler said she kind of reminded him of me,â Abigail giggled.
âI kind of saw that too,â Penny nodded. âShe has brown hair. Sheâs young. Sheâs cute. Sheâs really bubbly.â
âSounds like Abigail,â Sarah smirked.
âWell, as class went on, she started doing all these weird, silly things, and then it hit me. Sheâs literally a female Rusty.â I smiled at my friend and professor.
âThereâs a female version of me running around the Aguila Academy?â Rusty asked, raising an eyebrow.
âYeah. Sheâs like the younger, way hotter version of you,â I told him.
âThen I must be the evil one,â Rusty joked. âThatâs a pretty funny story.â
âThatâs not all, though,â Penny announced.
Abigail, Penny, and I glanced at each other, trying to contain our laughter again.
âSheâs completely into you,â I said.
Rusty stared at me for a minute without saying much until he squinted his eyes at me. âSheâs into me?â
âI would say more like sheâs madly in love with you,â Abigail giggled.
