Chapter Seven
Holly
My breathing is shallow, and my heart is racing. Weâre just standing here, looking at each other. His eyes are dark, and his lips are parted. All I can think about is whether heâs going to kiss me, and Iâm torn between staying where I am, or skirting around him to go back to my room.
Just when Iâm about to do the latter, his hand comes up to close around my arm. My eyes flick up to his, and I see his head begin to get closer, and⦠is that bacon?
I sit up and look around me, realising Iâm in my room and itâs morning. Falling back into the pillows, I release a frustrated sigh. Was I seriously dreaming about what happened last night, or rather, what I wish happened last night?
Several times I thought he was going to kiss me. The way he looked at me told me he wanted to, but then he wished me goodnight, turned, and went back into the bedroom. I stayed there for several minutes, wondering what just happened, before I switched off the lights and went back into my room.
It took me another hour before I finally succumbed to sleep just before 3am, and now Iâve been woken up by the smell of bacon at the crack ofâ¦10am! How have I been asleep until 11am? I never sleep in this late.
I jump out of bed and grab my robe off the floor. Iâm tying the sash at my waist when I walk out to see Noah moving around the kitchen. Heâs still in pyjamas and is wearing a blue and white checked apron. He smiles when he sees me, and quickly flicks on the kettle.
âGood morning, sleepyhead. Happy Christmas Eve,â he says as he uses the tongs to take the bacon out of the pan and place it onto two plates. âWould you like tea, juice, or both with your breakfast?â
âUm, both please. How long have you been up?â I ask as I sit on one of the stools next to the counter.
âAbout an hour,â he says. âI was going to start digging my car out of the snow, but⦠well, see for yourself.â
I furrow my brow, get down off the stool, and cross the room to the main window, gasping when I see outside. The snow that came down in the night has drifted and is at least two feet up the side of the cabin. Thereâs only about a foot of Noahâs car visible, and even less of my own.
âWhat the hell!â I exclaim, turning to see Noah putting two plates on the counter as he sits on one of the stools. âWhat do we do now?â
âNow, we eat,â he says as he pours two glasses of orange juice. âWe can decide what to do about that when weâre done.â
âBut my family is meant to be arriving this afternoon. So is your sister, isnât she?â
âShe is,â he says as he begins tucking into his bacon and pancakes. âCome and eat, before I eat your plate too.
