Chapter 18
Melody looks at her watch and notices itâs time to go and meet Hannah. Even though she is still in the dark as to why they are going to a storage locker, she is still excited about spending more time with her. She shuts down her computer and gathers up her belongings. On the way out she notices Winter in yet another Christmas sweater, âYou do love this holiday, I thought by now you would have gotten bored of wearing a different sweater every day.â Winter grins and shakes her head making her earrings jingle; âChristmas is my favourite of all, I love the lights, the spirit and wonder, the reconnections and the magic of it all. Do you not think Christmas will be different for you this year?â Melody considers her words and smiles, âYou know, I think it will be very different this year.â Winterâs grin becomes wider. âDo you think it will be different enough to decorate your office?â Melody laughs. âYou know what, why donât you put that small tree over there in my office.â Winter looks at where Melody is pointing and sees it is the smallest tree of the entire building. âWhat else would you like with it?â Melody shakes her head. âNothing at all, I think that will look very nice in there.â Winter is disappointed and nods. âI will have that arranged for you. Oh, and before you go, would you like a Christmas cookie? I think Iâm getting better.â She holds up the plate of delicious smelling cookies, Melody shrugs, âSure, why not. They do look different from your last batch.â Winter is thrilled. âThank you, I hope you like it. I am going to try another recipe for tomorrow. Itâs an old recipe I found in my apartment. You can be my guinea pig and tell me your thoughts.â
Melody laughs heartily. âOkay, you have a deal, I would love to try them for you.â She is almost at the elevator when Winter calls to her, âDonât forget, Melody in the smallest detail a new beginning can be opened.â Melody cocks her head to the side frowning at the statement and then chuckles. âNo more fortune cookies for you. Have a good evening, Winter see you tomorrow.â Winter waves to her. âSee you tomorrow, Miss Carmichael.â
Melody is replaying the statement over and over in her mind and canât figure out what she could mean. She is walking on autopilot to the benches when she bumps into another body. âOh, Iâm sorry.â She blushes as she sees that it is Hannah who is now grinning at her. âI was in a world of my own, not paying attention to where I was going.â Hannah leans in and kisses her cheek. âItâs quite alright, I wasnât paying attention either. What were you thinking about?â Melody shakes her head. âSomething Winter said just before I left. In the smallest detail, a new beginning can open or something like that. Sheâs always telling me things like that.
