Baked Fish with Cashew Nuts and Spices

1 kg (2 lbs) whole white fish, (like seabass or pomfret) cleaned, washed and wiped dry

5 tablespoons ginger paste

5 tablespoons garlic paste

½ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice

250 ml (1 cup) oil

1 medium onion, finely grated and mixed with a little water to form a paste

50 g (⅓ cup) ground cashew nuts

1¼ teaspoons chilli powder

½ teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons coriander powder

1 teaspoon fenugreek powder

2 teaspoons garam masala

150 ml (⅔ cup) plain yoghurt

375 ml (1½ cups) hot water
