CHAPTER ELEVEN
âHere we are.â Cainâs assistant led them into the third apartment theyâd seen this morning, and Lake gasped.
He felt like Goldilocks. The first one had been tooâ¦big. Too industrial. Too chrome.
The second one had been so plain. No view. Not a good shower.
This one, though. âOh, Boone. Itâs so pretty!â The apartment had warm hardwood floors, dark ceiling beams, a blue tile backsplash in the kitchen that looked like the oceanâ¦
âIsnât it? Letâs check the bathroom, sweet hailee.â
Oh⦠âYes!â He grabbed Booneâs hand, because he knew this was it. He knew it. It had to be.
The bathroom only proved it. A riot of blue, gray, and icy white tiles formed a wave on the wall. The floor looked like stone. There was a three-head rain bath shower with a built-in seat. And a big soaking tub.
âItâs perfect.â He spun in a happy circle. âOh, Boone, do you love it too?â
He held his breath, waiting for Booneâs response.
âI do.â Boone tugged him up close for a kiss. âI love it. Bedroom.â They went back out into the bedroom, and there was a niche in the wall there big enough to hold both their stones.
âBedroom.â He stared, and then his knees tried to buckle. âHome. This is home, Boone.â
âIt is.â His braaken kissed him again, laughing, and when they went to tell Cainâs assistant they wanted it, she was gone. The keycard lay on the little table by the front door. âI think she must have heard us.â
âThatâ¦thatâs it? Thatâs all?â They just could have it? This could be theirs?
âYes. Cain would never tell us no. Heâs committed to forming a community here, so even if I quit working for him, we would be able to stay.â
The relief in that was staggering. He wanted to explore this new world, but he also needed a safe space. He blinked at his lover. âThis is home. This is our home. Us. Weâ¦we can have babies here?â
âThere are four bedrooms, hailee. We can have babies here.â
âWe can.â They wandered from room to room, looking in closets and checking out bathrooms. They oohed and ahhed and decided to paint one room a light green to be a nursery when and if the time came.
âI want babies. It sounds like you do too,â Boone said.
âI do. I love babies. I love you. I want to have everything with you. I want to be with you.â
Boone laughed out loud, the sound echoing off the walls. âI love you too! We have a place. Now we can have Durango over to lunch here.â
âWe can.â The apartment had lovely furniture, and he felt right at home. âWeâll need to bring your things here.â
âWe do. And all your new clothes, huh?â Boone looked around, eyes shining.
âYes. And our stones, and my blanket that you brought me.â It was a good home, and he went to explore the little kitchen, then the huge sun-filled balcony. He could bask out there for hours.
âI love it.â
Boone came out behind him, arms sliding around his waist.
