GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

In May 1969, John and Yoko check into Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel for a week. They invite many of their friends to join them like Timothy Leary, Al Capp, and the celebrity poet Allen Ginsberg. After the Amsterdam bed-in for peace, this is Montreal’s bed-in.

At the bedside table, next to Yoko, a pamphlet announces, “We are confident you will enjoy all of what Montréal has to offer. Great shopping, dining, festivals, and world class sporting events, all wrapped up in a vibrant mix of French and English culture, makes Montreal a unique destination. Enjoy and let us make your stay memorable.”

On June 1, 1969, in this Montreal hotel, John Lennon records “Give Peace a Chance.” He’ll have to wait for the Watergate scandal, in 1975, for American troops to leave Vietnam.
