I wore a yellow sundress, a jean jacket, and sandals. Dylan and Charlotte came over to help me get ready. Jace and I weren’t doing things in the usual order, as we’d had a lot of hurdles we’d had to overcome to get here. But it was still our first date, and I couldn’t wait to be alone with him. To be able to say that we were together.

The girls knew. My family knew. And that’s all that mattered to me.

No more hiding my feelings.

“Where is he taking you?” Charlotte asked as she sat on my bed, reading her phone.

“I don’t know. He said dinner and a surprise.”

“Oh, I know what the surprise must be. Sounds like big daddy’s coming out to play,” Dylan said and we all burst out in laughter. She ran her fingers through my hair after she’d put in a few beach waves for me.

“Okay, enough big daddy talk.” I glanced down at my phone to see the text from Jace. “He just dropped off the girls and he’s on his way to pick me up.”

“That’s our cue. I need to head over to Jilly’s. She wants me to help her go through some catalog for bridesmaids’ dresses.” Jilly had gotten engaged last weekend, and we were all so happy for her. She and Garrett had been together for a long time.

“I’m guessing Ledger Dane will be coming in town for that wedding.” Dylan smirked, because we liked to give Charlotte a hard time about her secret crush on her best friend’s older brother.

“I assume you’re right, seeing as he’s her brother and he’s paying for the wedding.” She smirked, knowing we were going to have a field day with this news.

“That’s nice of him to pay for the wedding. I’m guessing you’ll both be in the wedding party? How do you feel about that?” I bumped her with my shoulder as I reached for my purse on the table.

“It’s no big deal. We’re friends. Nothing more. Have you forgotten that I’m dating Lyle? Things are going well for us.”

Dylan groaned. “Things are going well if you’re into snooze fests. That guy talked my ear off about bugs. Black bugs. Brown bugs. Creepy crawlers. I mean, who wants to talk about that?”

Charlotte laughed. “He’s an exterminator. It’s his thing. Everyone has their thing.”

“Well, he better have an impressive penis if all he talks about is bugs.” Dylan snorted.

“Come on, dirty bird. Let’s go get some pizza, I’m starving. Call us later and let us know how it went,” Charlotte said as they made their way out the door.

“Better yet… don’t call us. Just have fun with that hot man of yours,” Dylan shouted as they made their way down the driveway.

Jace pulled in less than a minute later, and I stepped outside. He put the car in park and got out and made his way to me. “You look so fucking pretty.”

He backed me up against the passenger door and kissed me breathless. My fingers tangled in his hair, and I moaned into his mouth.
