Chapter Twenty-Two
Bianca
I dialed Quan’s number for what seemed to be the millionth time. He wouldn’t answer the phone nor would he respond to any of my text messages. A part of me was infuriated while the other part was partially worried. Everybody had been long gone and I was left alone.
When Quan had come into the room earlier, the conversation between my mother and I had ceased due to the fact that Quan was the topic of conversation. She called herself trying to stand up for Bryan and the things he said. Although she loved Quan, she felt as though we needed to be apart; things were happening as a sign from God telling us that maybe we weren’t meant to be.
As much as I loved my mother, when it came to Quan, I would defend him to no end whether he is right or wrong. My life was a mess at this moment. I didn’t know where I had gone wrong but I for damn sure needed to gain control over the mess. I had spoken to Donnique and she had offered for Qiara and I to get away and go to Atlanta with her for a little while. I wanted to let Quan know that we were going. I knew he wouldn’t be happy but he would have to get over it. Donnique had booked the tickets already.
I sighed and put my phone down at another failed attempt to reach Quan. I looked at the time and noticed it was only a little past nine. I paged the nurse. Somebody was gonna tell me when I would be able to go the hell home.
“Yes, Mrs. Lyons,” the nurse peeked her head in the door.
“Do you know when I’ll be able to go home?” I asked her.
“Let me check for you,” she responded with a wink and disappeared. I knew that I wasn’t fully healed but I wanted to be at home with my daughter. I felt as though as of lately, she was all I had.
The knock at the door jarred my thoughts.
“Hey. The doctor is scheduled to be here in the morning. He wants to run a few x-rays to see how your legs are healing. If all is well, we can look forward to getting you out of here as soon as tomorrow,” she smiled.
“Thank you.”
Inside I was jumping for joy. The nurse slid back out the door and I began to browse the channels for something to watch. After settling on Law & Order: SVU I began to relax. It wasn’t too long before I was fast asleep.

I was awakened by the sound of the chair beside my bed moving. I instantly whipped my head to the left and saw Quan sitting there. His eyes were blood shot read and he smelled terribly of Hennessey and weed.
“You scared the shit out of me,” I said as I grabbed my chest. He didn’t speak, he just stared at me. “What’s wrong?” For the first time since Qiara was born, Quan shed a tear.
