“Nobody here,” the man grunted to himself and stamped up onto the rickety veranda dragging the two girls along with him. They bumped up the steps, and Merley made a loud noise as the wood scraped the skin off her legs. She had been clothed in a dress to work in the saloon.

Daisy had at least her travelling clothes on and was a bit more protected. The man was none too bright and looked around for somewhere to dump the girls and stop them running away.

Daisy heard him muttering to himself and felt the grip loosen slightly on her throat. Her chest was still heaving for breath, but now they had stopped moving, she felt the butt of the handgun at her waist and fastened her grip around it.
