The Mother Card

“I think we’d better ask for some help.” Ron shoved Betsy’s leg to the center of the bed where she lay passed out.

“Help. From who? We’ve been trying to find a reverse potion all night. I’m exhausted. I’m not sure who or what I’d even ask for.” April whimpered and threw her feet across Jessica’s knees.

“Betsy’s mother.” Jessica tilted her head to the back of the sofa and threw her arm over her eyes. “We have to go see Blanche.”

“This is serious. We’re never supposed to ask her mother for help.” April said.

“She’s the only one, other than Betsy’s father, who knows that book better than she does.” Ron said. “Even though the love potion recipe wasn’t an original, maybe she’ll know what to do.”

“You call?” Lola asked. “Or we surprise transport?”

“You all go get ready. I’ll give her a call on the Copy Reveal. She loves that thing.” Ron chuckled. “That should put her in a good mood.”

“Maybe then she won’t be so quick to say to tell Betsy she shouldn’t have been messing around with a love potion.” Jessica said.

“I know. She did warn her.” April hung her head. “I’m just hopeful she’ll know where that stupid potion recipe came from.”

“So, we agree. It’s time to transport Betsy outta here. It’s our best bet to figure this shit out. Blanche may’ve hated the idea of her making one, but she’ll love the idea of helping us fix it.” Ron said.

“She is a fixer.” Jessica agreed.

“We transport while sleeping?” Lola finished off an apple and let the core fall to the coffee table.

“Yes.” Ron rubbed his forehead. “I gave her a few drops of Forty Winks. She’s going to be out for a while.

“Damn it, Ron.” Jessica sunk deeper into the sofa.

“So, you’ve drugged her, too.” April said.

“That is dangerous for us.” Lola said.

“Not really. We just need time to get her to Covington. She’d never agree to go.” Ron huffed.

Lola scrambled to her feet and ran to the bedroom.

“Where the hell did she go?” Ron looked around.

“No idea. Who cares?” Jessica said.

Appearing back beside them, as quickly as she had disappeared. “I’ve got it. Our Betsy’s Mr. Wonderful.” She shoved a sparkling black and silver business card in their faces. “We find him after we make reverse potion. No calling him. That is too desperate. And could be bad since babies drug him with love potion.”

“And who is he?” Ron waved her off.

April grabbed the card from Lola’s long and delicate fingered grasp. “This is no ordinary warlock business card. This is a…” She flipped the card on the table.

“A witchologist. Yes. I know.” Lola sat back down and began eating.

“Why do you know a witchologist? And where did you meet Betsy’s man?” Ron gently picked up the card and turned it over in his hands. It read, Dorian Reed—Witchologist, Neuroscientist for the Magical World—Rabbit Hash, Kentucky.

“Too say I know him is not truth. I might have, what do you say, visit him at the thing, the night before the launch party.
