Chapter Seventeen

The crisp fresh air of the Rockies was different than any place else that he’d been, and it’s where Eric had always found his escape. Between Dante’s home in Frederick and his father’s place in Montana, he had the best of both worlds. Which was why he didn’t want to head back to Lexington, and all the troubles that would cause.

The escape to his brother’s place had been amazing and the thought of having to pack and head back in two days really didn’t sit well with him.

Sylvia had already told Yuri that she wouldn’t be back at Poles to dance, but that didn’t mean the fucker who’d been sending her notes would go away. It also meant that she’d be back at work during the day, and in the evening, she’d be back at her apartment with her friend, Talya.

He’d gotten used to having her with him twenty-four/seven, so the change that would come with heading back, didn’t sit well with him. He wanted her with him. Sylvia seemed to be hesitant about heading back to her home. He just couldn’t decide if it was because of her stalker or because she wanted to stay with him. Could she be wondering what would happen to their new relationship? Just like he was.

His woman was lounging out back, taking in the vista with his sister Emelia. She looked snug in her outdoor gear and he knew he wouldn’t be able to get her inside very easily. She seemed to love the cold. The friendship that had bloomed since their arrival seemed to have stayed constant and he was glad of that. Emelia could be a pain in his ass, but she seemed genuinely delighted to have Sylvia to talk to.

While he watched them from the warmth of the cabin, he still found it hard to believe the words spoken by Dante the other day. Dante had only confirmed what Eric had thought in the past, although he’d always pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, not wanting to go there. He thanked fuck that he wasn’t his brother because he had a lot of shit to deal with. He also knew that Dante, albeit troubled by his past, was still troubled with wrongful feelings toward their sister, which was why he didn’t want her in his house.

He had no idea how their sister felt because there was no way he was going to ask her. But with the unguarded looks she passed at Dante, Eric would say his two siblings were heading for major heartache and trouble.

Watching now, Emelia moved away from Sylvia and headed inside through the front door, so he decided to brace himself for the cold, and grabbed his jacket on his way out the back. He needed to stop avoiding his sister, but while he wanted to be wrapped up with his woman, he would for a while longer.

He leaned over Sylvia and kissed her on the top of her head before he dropped into the chair beside her, and held her gloved hand.
