“Hey, Patty, how you doin’?”

“Fine, Jessica, how you doin’, hermanita?”

“I’m all right. Just got a little problem, though.”

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m a little short on funds. I maxed out my credit card.”

“Buying what?”

“A TV.’ ”

“You have a nice TV.”

“Yes, but I bought one for my babysitter.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Because she needs one.”

“But, Jessica, why can’t she buy her own TV?”

“She’s too poor to afford one.”

“You aren’t exactly rich.”

“But I have more than her. Beside, her parents are sick. She had to move back home with them. And it turns out they don’t have a TV either.”

“So you bought her one?”

“I just felt so bad for her, sis. Most nights she’s home alone. She needs a little entertainment.”

“Listen to me, Jessica. You can’t be buying televisions for just anyone.”

“She’s not just anyone, Patty. She’s a wonderful person. She’s truly deserving.”

“I’m sure she is.”

“So I’m a little short this month.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll loan you what you need.”

“Thanks, Patty. Every time I go out, she takes good care of Richard. Now I feel like I need to take care of her.”

“That’s a beautiful thought, Jessica, but it still leaves you broke.”

“No worries. I got my health, I got my son, and I met a new guy.”

“Wow. You save the headline for last. What’s his name?”

“Julio.”

“Where’d you meet him?”

“At the sporting goods store where I’ve been working. He came in for an interview.”

“He get the job?”

“He sure did.”

“What’s he like?”

“He’s wonderful, Patty. Everything is wonderful.”
