âAre you having a good time?â Lisa asked, joining Chelsea at the bar. She and Neil had been goofing around on the dance floor, moving their hips to some old sixties song, along with some of the gang theyâd met here.
âItâs fun.â Chelsea smiled at her. âThank you for letting me come along.â
âIâm glad you did. Neilâs worried about you. He said if he didnât spring you from the house soon youâd end up with Stockholm Syndrome.â
Chelsea laughed along with her. Lisa didnât know how close she was to the truth. Not that Chris was her captor â but she was still falling for him.
And that was a bad idea.
âCan I have another margarita?â Lisa asked the barman.
He nodded and glanced at Chelsea. âAnd you, maâam?â
âDo you know how to make a Last Word?â she asked him.
His brows pinched together. âI donât, but I can Google it.â
She shook her head. âItâs okay. Iâll just have a margarita, too.â It was stupid anyway. She only wanted him to make her one so she could tease Chris that it was better than his. And the whole point of coming out tonight was to stop thinking about him. She was supposed to be concentrating on having fun, not strategizing how to rile him up enough to want to kiss her again.
All she could think about were his lips on hers.
âHow long have you been dating Neil?â she asked Lisa, determined to push her boss and his talented mouth out of her mind.
âOnly a couple of months. We hit it off during pre-production meetings. He has the goofiest sense of humor and it kind of matches mine.â The first-flush-of-love expression on Lisaâs face made Chelsea feel wistful. âItâs still early days, but Iâm really hoping itâs not just a location romance, you know?â
âA location romance?â
Lisa smiled. âLike a vacation romance but on set. It happens a lot. Half of the scandals in Hollywood come from location romances. Thereâs this intensity to being away and filming. You work crazy long hours, spend all your time with the same people. If thereâs chemistry there, itâs like itâs distilled by a million parts. And then you go home and back to your normal life and things go to shit.â
âEek.â Chelsea grimaced. âYou sound like youâre talking from experience.â
âPut it this way. Iâll never date an actor again.â
The barman slid two cocktail glasses toward them, and Lisa held her phone up to pay.
âIâll get these,â Chelsea protested.
âNo, you got the last round. This oneâs on me.â When sheâd paid, Lisa took a long sip of her margarita. âHow about you? Are you dating anybody?â
âNo,â Chelsea said, sipping her own drink. âIâm having what they call a dry spell.â
Lisa laughed. âIt must be hard with your job. I assume you work a lot of nights.â
âYeah.â Chelsea took another mouthful of her cocktail. âAnd weekends, too. I guess itâs like working in the movie industry in that outsiders donât really understand the long hours and get annoyed when youâre not around.
