The crew party was in full swing when they walked in. Ryley, entertaining as always, was doing his mixologist thing and called them over to the bar.

“What’ll it be, ladies? You look like you got some sun today—so something cool and refreshing—how about a Raspberry Gin Smash?”

“Yes, please,” Kim said without hesitation. “That sounds irresistible.”

“I’m going to be boring and have a rosé piscine,” Stephanie said. “If I have any hard liquor tonight I’ll be finished before I begin. After the day we had, I’m already a little drunk on sunshine and the stunning beauty of where we were.”

“Ah, the Côte d’Azur has you under its spell! Drinking a rosé piscine like a local.” Liam’s voice reached them before he did as he made his way across the room. “It doesn’t take long—especially if you take the route you did. Antibes will capture your heart.”

He tapped his finger lightly on the large round wine glass in his other hand, which held rosé and ice cubes. “It truly is a refreshing drink. I agree.” As soon as Stephanie was served her drink, he clinked her glass with his.

“So, let’s hear all about your day. Jean-Luc told me he introduced you to Philippe and then you met his wife from Toronto. How cool a coincidence is that? And then he started you off on your hike. How did you like that sentier?”

Both women began talking at the same time, which caused more laughter. Then they found some chairs and gave Liam all the details.

As they chatted, a woman Stephanie recognized from the housecleaning staff came around with a large glass bowl filled with colorful paper fish.

“Hi, I’m Imogene,” she said. “Take one of these fish, peel off the backing and stick it over your heart. There’s a number on the fish and there will be a drawing for a special prize later. Also, your number identifies you in the karaoke contest. Good luck!”

“Karaoke?” Stephanie asked, wide-eyed. “I’m terrible. I truly cannot sing.”

Liam assured her no one took it very seriously, but it was always a lot of fun.

Kim poked her and said, “Hey, we can do our Cyndi Lauper routine. Remember?”

“Ack! How could I forget?” Kim replied. “You’ve got to be kidding. We haven’t done that since high school.”

Liam’s eyes shone. “I declare this is going to be good.”

“Not going to happen,” Stephanie insisted. “And I’m starving. Let’s get some food.”

They joined a table of ten. All the food was served family style. Platters of grilled fish, calamari and shrimp; heaping bowls of mussels with a choice of white wine sauce or curry sauce; and overflowing baskets of frites were just a few of the choices.

Carlos slid into a seat across from them with a beaming smile! “Kim. Estefania. Hola! I haven’t seen you for days. Try the sardines and calamari. I’ve been grilling them for the last hour and we’ve got enough to feed an army!”

There were murmurs of satisfaction as everyone sampled the dishes.

Katherine, who had joined their table, exclaimed “This is crazy.
