The blankets were hardly Hudson Bay, but they were way warmer that your average county jail kept on hand. So once he'd piled 'em all on the bottom bunk at one end of the cell block and trimmed that oil lamp he felt no need to light that stove, even sleeping bare-ass. Albeit, by the time he'd hung up all his duds and slipped his goose bumps atop two and under six wool blankets he could feel the coming winter pussyfooting through the frame walls, boilerplate and thin dry air all around him.

Black coffee could do worse than keep a man awake, albeit it was doing that, too, as he kept jerking awake every time his tired frame commenced to go all-the-way limp.

What was worse, as he kept trying to drop off and the night kept getting colder, was that he was commencing to feel hke pissing. He knew he'd surely wake up before morning from one of those annoying dreams where ladies you didn't know well kept popping in on you just as you were about to let fly, and that he'd freeze his poor balls blue rolling out to piss icicles, unless he got up right now and got it over with before it got any colder.

On the other hand he was feeling so snug right now and he'd surely fall asleep before he really had to get up and...
