Cordy was still kicking herself for opening her mouth, but so far, she’d resisted telling Gran and Joan that she and Hannah had kissed. For now, that news was just for her. Cordy lay on the pull-out sofabed in what was now back to Joan’s writing room, the place she’d called home for her first few months in London. She scrolled on her phone to Hannah’s TikTok page, where she’d been uploading a constant stream of her performances, her thoughts, and her getting ready to be Max Girth. Her views were off the scale, her followers climbing every day. Hannah had told her she’d had plenty of boob shots in her DMs. It didn’t happen to pianists, and Cordy could barely imagine.

On a whim, she messaged her, minus a boob shot. Even though she was tempted. They had kissed, after all.
