Many of his letters were profane and vulgar describing what he had done to Midsi and what he wanted to do to her. Most were threatening and accusatory. More than once, he tried to blame her for Xiana’s disappearance.
He would trade his knowledge of Xiana’s whereabouts to get what he wanted, Anderson said. He wanted the district attorney to negotiate for the information.
His demands included a shorter prison sentence, a hip operation, a VCR in prison, and the ability to smoke in his jail cell.
There wasn’t anything she could do about the negotiations, she told him. And she continued to ask questions about Xiana.
“If there are people that have her now, how long did you have her?” she wrote. “Where was she kept when you had her? Why did you decide to put her with these people? What do they plan to do with her? Is it true that she is still alive? I question this because you kidnapped another child. What would be the need to kidnap another child if you already had Xiana? If she is not alive, could you let me know please? Will you consider my having a conversation with her?
“I need her back! I need to make this up to her for allowing her to come. I did not decide or plan for her to come and I didn’t agree with it, but I didn’t fight it and I should have. She had a very happy life before coming here to Vallejo.”
Anderson wrote back.
He scolded her for not putting up a fight before sending Xiana to California.
In response to her question about why he would take Midsi if he still had Xiana, he wrote: “Sure glad you will not be on my jury. Say ya have a play-station-2, you got a game disk, play with it all day everyday, ya get tired of it, ya get a new game disk to play with, don’t mean ya throw away the old one ya just don’t play with it as much.”
