Alicia was shocked at how big the studio was. It was as big as a whole hospital floor and it looked exactly the same, actually, a bit better. Like a really swanky hospital. There were a lot of people dressed as nurses, doctors, surgeons. Because she was so used to being in a hospital, Alicia was surprised that she had to keep reminding herself that none of this were real and the surgeons she recognized from the TV series were actually just actors.

Ruby went to go through hair and make up and change. When she got out Alicia barely recognized her.

“Ru, what did they do to you?” Alicia looked at Ruby’s hands suddenly devoid of the tattoos and rings that were so, well, Ruby. What kind of make up covered tattoos like that? The same on Ruby’s neck- no tattoos. Ruby had mentioned that they were keeping some of the tattoos for her character, but Alicia hadn’t prepared herself for how much like a doctor she would look. The piercings too were gone and Ruby’s dark hair was slicked back.

“I’m Dr Camille Williams. I’m no longer Ruby. Ruby is saved only for you,” Ruby said and winked at Alicia.

Alicia enjoyed watching the shoot; it was controlled chaos, scenes rapidly changing, and the crew seemed to be in constant movement. Alicia was impressed with how the actors were so convincing in their roles. How they changed completely as soon as the cameras started rolling. But watching Ruby was incredible. She believed Ruby was good at her job, but her energy on the screen made it look magical. Alicia followed every scene very carefully. She had a notebook in her bag so she used it to write some stuff down. Even though she wasn’t a professional, she loved movies and theater so she knew how to critique. Therefore she made a few comments she wanted to talk to Ruby about.

“How does it look to you?” Ruby asked Alicia once a scene wrapped.

“It was wonderful watching you. You totally embody Dr Camille Williams. I even forgot I was watching you. I feel like Camille is a real person. Like, I knew there was more to you, like you were hiding something—but not in a bad way—like every moment you could do something unexpected. It’s because you are so real, yet so mysterious. Watching you act on set almost feels like a dream. You were just that amazing.” Alicia paused and thought for a minute. “Are you ever allowed input in the script? The wording? That scene when you were expressing your love…a few sentences didn’t really work for me. I felt your emotion but I felt like the words could have been better chosen. And that’s not your fault; I think they could have been written better.”

“What are you thinking? I’m definitely allowed an input if I think a line can be improved and fit the character better.”

“Doesn’t it seem cliché to say, ‘you are my whole world’? Honestly, who says that? They’ve not long met.
