Nik lunges towards Yuri before he can finish his sentence. He stops short, looming over him. “Watch your fucking mouth. You may be out on bail, but that does not mean that you are a free man. Touch her and I will kill you.”

For a moment it seems as if he is going to pounce on me from behind Nik.

After a few long seconds between all of us, Yuri turns and storms off. Nik nods to Sergey before taking me by the hand and pulling me into the hallway.

He stops suddenly, spinning me around and pinning me to the wall. His hand wraps around my throat, his fingers brushing over my pulse.

“Want to tell me what the fuck that was back there?” His tone is angry and threatening.

“I handcuffed him to a bed and called in backup to arrest him. I was just doing my job.” I sound like I’m pleading with him, but I don’t care. I need Nik to believe me. The last thing I want is for the desire in his eyes to fade. The way he looks at me is addictive.

I’m supposed to be finding a way to send him to jail, not keep the fire burning between us.

The two sides of my mind are at war with each other and in the end, I’m sure that I’m going to lose. There is no way that I’m coming out of this unscathed.

My heart pounds against my ribcage and my legs shake. Arousal rises in my core as he leans into me. Every inch of his body presses against mine. His face is too close, his lips brushing across mine with a soft sigh.

He strokes his thumb down my neck. “You’re mine now and I don’t like your job. If I so much as hear you allow a man to hold your fucking hand, I will kill him and ruin you.”

I maintain eye contact, but God knows my knees are weak as I read his violent expressions. He means what he says.

“Understood?”

He slightly tightens his grip around my throat, while demanding an answer.

“Understood.” I give in.
