Kerwin was still fuming as he drove away from the house where heâd grown up. He was so angry that he wasnât thinking straight, so as soon as he felt he was far enough away, he stopped the car in the first parking spot he could find. He quickly texted Fergus to check in on him, smiling when his mate answered that his sister had signed all the documents and that heâd be taking their son home as soon as the hospital was okay with it.
It would take a while longer for everything to be official, especially if Kerwin wanted to adopt the baby, but this was what Fergus wanted, and while Kerwin was more hesitant, he wouldnât have done anything differently. He couldnât say heâd expected to become a father at twenty-four, and he knew it wouldnât be easy, but he was ready.
He smiled at the picture Jamison had just texted him of Fergus holding their son. Jamison had even teased Kerwin that he hadnât been there to choose the babyâs name, but Kerwin and Fergus had talked about it. Kerwin had known the name Fergus preferred, and he quite liked Theo, too, so he didnât have a problem with it. He should have been there to support Fergus, but Fergus had insisted he try talking to his mother again when heâd mentioned he might, and theyâd wanted to avoid a confrontation with Fergusâs family. Kerwin was glad heâd be there when the baby was released from the hospital, and heâd drive Fergus and Theo to Fergusâs apartment. Kerwin had already talked to the trainers, and he had the next few days off from training so they could learn how to be a family. Heâd be there for Kerwin, no matter how hard it was.
But he still had someone to talk to, so he quickly pulled up his fatherâs number and called. He wasnât surprised when his father didnât answer. He was at work, and even when he wasnât, he usually forgot where heâd put his phone. Hell, he often forgot to charge it, so it was a small miracle that it was ringing.
Kerwin could imagine what his father would go home to tonight, and he wanted to warn him. His mother could say whatever she wanted, but the only truth was the one Kerwin would provide.
Since he couldnât talk to his father, he texted him. It took way too long to put what he wanted to say into words. Heâd already told his father heâd met his mate, and his dad had been happy. Heâd wanted to meet Fergus, and that was before Theo had come into the picture. Heâd be even happier now, or at least, Kerwin hoped so. The fact that he wasnât sure was the only reason he hadnât told his father about the baby yet. After the way his mother had reacted, he was terrified his father would push him away, too. A shifter mate seemed to be all right, but would a half-shifter, half-demon baby be okay, too?
Kerwin would find out eventually.
