Chapter 10
KAI
I should have taken a shower at Silasâ, but I just cleaned up real quick so we could hopefully get to work on time, even though as I looked at the clock, I doubted I would make it.
I flew through the front door of my apartment and there, in the kitchen, sat Simon, glaring at me. I could only imagine what I looked like, but whatever. I had to get ready for work.
âHey Sim,â I said as I rushed into my room. I thought I heard him following me, so I said, âIâm running late for work.â
âWhy didnât you come home last night?â
I yanked on a clean shirt, then looked at him. He was standing there in front of the door with his arms crossed. âOh, uh, I got held up.â Who the fuck asked someone that after a date?
âI waited for you to come back so we could watch something.â
What theâ¦? âI told you not to wait up.â Where the hell were my other jeans? I pulled everything out of my wardrobe and found them, then threw it back in and changed into my work jeans as quickly as I could.
âDid he shag you?â
I jumped at his tone. It was harsh, his face was pinched in a disgusted mask, and he was flushed and trembling. Suddenly, I felt like something was very wrong. I asked, âSim, what are you doing?â
âI asked you a bloody question, slut!â he yelled and threw his coffee mug against the wall, shattering it in pieces.
Oh, fuck!
âSim, calm down. We can talk about this.â
âDid you really expect me to come all this way to watch you shag some guy? I thought we had a bloody connection, and now you avoid me like a bloody leper, leaving me alone with your junkie flatmate.â
How could I escape? Heâd blocked the door. Would screaming wake up anyone? I didnât know. I looked around and located my phone. I would just have to get to it, but first I had to calm him down.
âWhat the hell, Kai? What kind of a whore are you, walking around, giving your arse to everybody on the second date? I thought you were special, that what we had was bloody special, but youâre just like everyone else!â
He advanced toward me with every word, blocking any kind of escape, as I tried to keep calm, slowly retreating away from him, but then my back hit the wardrobe. âSim, calm down. We can work this out, but I donât like this screaming.â
He punched the wardrobe door next to my face, rattling it.
âI donât like you shagging other guys!â
I was panicking. He was shaking in anger and his hands were closing and opening, making fists. Suddenly, he turned around and paced the room, giving me an excellent opportunity to grab for my phone and hide it behind my back. I hoped to God I was dialing someone.
911, May, Jason, Silas⦠anyone.
âAll those hours we spent talking at night. Was it just me jerking off, Kai?â
Gross.
âI found you on Facebook.
