Chapter Thirteen

Phillip

I really hated asking Clark for his advice, but he always said he was the Heart who knew how to have fun. It was interesting to see what he proposed for a date night. I’m sure plenty of women enjoyed being swooped off for a surprise weekend in Dubai or Paris, but Lindsay didn’t strike me as that person. If anything, everything Clark suggested would probably have her backing off instead of snuggling up like she had the other night.

So I was back to square one, trying to come up with something original, like she had. I chuckled because from what Samantha had told me, wine and paint night hadn’t been Lindsay’s idea at all. I wasn’t disappointed, but with how much fun we had, it set the bar going forward.

There was one couple who definitely knew how to think outside of the box. My brother’s wife Shanda had a shop that might just make another perfect date night. I dialed Kenneth.

“Phillip, what can I do for you?”

“I need your help,” I said.

“That’s a first.”

As the eldest, I never went to my brothers for assistance - they came to me. But I have to admit, there are a few things they have more experience with than I do. Wowing a woman would be one of them.

“I want to schedule a private class for tonight.”

“You mean at Just Blown?” he asked.

“Yes.”

Kenneth asked, “For you? Because this doesn’t seem like your type of activity. Not that I’m trying to discourage you from coming. Shanda and I would love to see you, but you’ve never shown any interest before.”

“Can you do it or not?” I snapped.

Kenneth chuckled. “Blowing glass is a delicate process. You might want to leave your bad attitude at home.”

“That is a yes?”

“Of course. And while you’re here, why don’t you stay for dinner?” Kenneth suggested.

“I’d love to, but we will need to get back to Boston.”

“We? Does this mean you’re bringing a…date?”

Kenneth had been out of the loop since he moved to Hope Valley, Rhode Island, but I had a hard time believing Clark hadn’t been keeping them all up-to-date with his version of what’s going on in my life.

“I will be bringing Lindsay with me. I would appreciate it if you kept this between us. And Kenneth, don’t make a big deal out of it. She’s not like any of the other women I’ve dated. I’m not sure she is ready for the Heart interrogation, if you know what I mean.”

“Phillip, you don’t need to worry about that from me or my wife. Shanda loves the family but hasn’t ever forgotten what it was like to meet Mother and Father, never mind you guys. I’m lucky she even agreed to marry me after that,” he said.

Things between Lindsay and me were going shockingly well, but I had no intention of introducing her to my parents. She’d hate everything about going to their home. Lindsay was not impressed by material things and had not an ounce of pretentiousness about her.
