Sam shoved her laptop into her bag when I exited Dr. Thomas’s office. I sighed with annoyance. This was getting old. I was twenty-eight and being babysat by my best friend. If the cops didn’t arrest Bruce soon, I was going to go mad.

As Sam and I walked out of the building, she informed me that Jack had called. “He said he’s coming over tomorrow afternoon and he wants you to wear workout clothes.”

So many jumbled thoughts came out at once. “What kind of kinky…and why did he call you and not me? And I thought you said I wasn’t meeting clients this week!”

Sam rolled her eyes. “Check your phone. He tried calling you first, but you were a little busy, and since we’re now glued at the hip, he called me. You can bombard him with your questions,” she said in an annoyed huff.

If we had any intention of staying friends then we needed to have some time apart. And soon.
