Over the next couple weeks, I found time to talk with most of my roommates.
No one seemed to have a problem with my past, although all of them seemed ready to fight Luka if it came down to it.
Leighton and Ollie were the most supportiveâaside from Julian who had become my knight in shining armor even though I didnât need saving, but it was nice to have a protector all the same.
âHey, bae,â Leighton said from the doorway of our shared bathroom.
âChrist, Leigh,â I exclaimed, jumping about a foot in the air and nearly wiping out in the shower. âKnock?â
âSorry,â he said, not sounding at all sorry. âFirst, you need to hide your new scents before I steal them. Second, where did you get them? Theyâre fabulous.â
Iâd splurged with one of my first paychecks from the health center and gotten a collection of really nice soap, shampoo, lotion, and hair product in an orange cream scent. It maybe wasnât a typical masculine scent, but I remembered my mom smelling of oranges and the scent was comforting.
âI ordered it online. You canât have it. Canât I shower in peace?â I didnât really mind having Leighton in the bathroom while I showered, but he was fun to tease.
âCanât have what? Damn, you smell good,â Ollie said, popping in on the impromptu bathroom party.
âRight? I want to share his soap, but he says I canât,â Leighton said.
âOh my god, both of you, can you get out? How am I supposed to get ready to go meet LuLu if youâre both pervinâ on me in the shower?â I loved them like the brothers I never had and knew without a doubt the three of us werenât at all into each other, but I liked to give them a rough time.
It was somewhat overwhelming to me just how quickly Iâd grown to love and trust the new men in my life.
âFine, but hurry up, we need to leave soon,â Ollie said.
I knew he was excited to introduce us to Bashâs aunt, LuLuâwho Ollie swore loved him more than Bash and wanted to adopt him.
They left and I finished up, drying off and styling my hairâmy head never far from Julian and what a big part of my heart heâd stolen.
I wanted more with him.
And heâd indicated he wanted the same.
But I needed to make sure he knew all of my past before I could jump into anything with him. Maybe it was selfish, but I wanted him to know all the things Iâd lost my say in so heâd understand my wants and desiresâunderstand where I was coming from and what I needed to make a relationship successful.
Not that I really had any idea how to make a relationship successful.
But I knew what did not workâMax had shown me that. Not that Iâd ever felt an iota of what I felt for Julian with Max.
I knew what my heart longed for.
Julian.
It was as simple as that.
Some would argue I couldnât trust my heart if it fell for the very first man who showed me any sort of kindness.
