SEAHORSE SKETCH

A summer sketchbook doodle. I do my best to do one sketch per day whenever we are away. Usually there is a moment of idleness that can be turned into a few lines. If centaurs exist, then why not sea-centaurs?

THE WANDERING FIRE

This is by far my favourite cover of Guy Gavriel Kay’s Fionavar trilogy. I keep a collection of photos of large marine mammals for the manner in which they break the surface of the water, and another drawer full of photos of snakes for scales. A snake’s body is never simply round, like a sausage, it is a sinuous continuum of intersecting lines of force. A few highlights on scales help make the creature come alive.
