Chapter Fifteen

Jeremy stopped writing. He lowered his ink pen to the spiral notebook that rested on his desk. He blinked slowly and sat erect in his chair. He gazed across the crowded lecture hall. He stared at the short middle aged professor who was standing in front of the large lecture room.

Dr. Pratt slapped her small hands against the top portion of the wooden podium in front of her while she spoke in a loud clear voice.

Jeremy raised his sight from Dr. Pratt. He focused his gaze on the large white screen that hung on the wall directly behind her.

Dozens of hastily scrawled formulas hovered atop the white object.

Dr. Pratt spoke slowly and clearly while she squinted behind the thick lenses of the huge silver- rimmed glasses she wore.

Jeremy leaned back in his chair. He turned from the screen and looked around the room.

The seated students around him all stared at the front of the room with a glazed expression across their features.

Jeremy raised his hand. He tapped at a small black flashlight that jutted from his pocket before he lowered his limb. He turned abruptly and looked at Dr. Pratt.

Dr. Pratt stopped talking. She moved closer to the podium. She tapped at the laptop computer that was propped on the lecture wooden lecture stand.The formulas on the white screen vanished before they were replaced with a dense myriad of numbers, letters and symbols that floated on the object in no particular order.

The entire class of students groaned loudly.

Dr. Pratt grinned. She looked up at the seated students with an enthusiastic nod before she resumed her speech.

Jeremy glanced at Dr. Pratt before he looked at the white screen. He released a low choke of alarm. He grabbed his pen and scribbled furiously across his spiral notebook.

His cellular phone vibrated.

Jeremy stopped writing. He placed his pen on his notebook and pulled his cell from his pocket. He looked at the screen of the device.

'Albert checking in. Keep it together bro'

Jeremy smiled. He tapped at the cell.

'Jeremy checking in. Keep it together bro'

Jeremy slid his cell phone inside his pocket.

The lights in the room suddenly brightened.

The area was filled with the sounds of rattling papers, resonant footsteps and loud chatter.

Jeremy blinked. He looked up at the students around him.

The pupils were rising from their seats and rushing quickly to the nearest exits of the auditorium.

Jeremy turned from the bustling students. He looked at the front of the lecture hall.

Dr. Pratt watched the leaving students with an expression of slight bewilderment across her features. She cleared her throat with a musical chortle before she spoke above the noise with a loud shout.

"Yes our class time has ended. Remember your examination is next week and I will see you next class! If you have any questions please see me!" Dr. Pratt yelled.

Several students jumped from their seats and they rushed to Dr. Pratt with expressions of panic across their features.

The pupils surrounded Dr. Pratt in a tight circle. They shook their textbooks and iPads convulsively in their grasp as they all spoke at once.
