28.
That evening, Gage sat in his kitchen, eyes on his computer. He'd spent the afternoon buried in his work, trying to convince himself it was all he needed. That what he might end up feeling for Cole one day wasn't worth remodeling his life.
They were lies, and he knew it.
The jealousy had worn off during the drive home, leaving him feeling like a fool. Cole might have inspired his heart to start beating again, but that didn't mean he was ready for a relationship, regardless of what his dick thought. He had to have his head together enough to navigate the new things a love affair with a professional model would bring. Like sharing him with fans, photographers, and the agent dictating his career. All of which would claim the rights to Cole, at least temporarily, and Cole would do what most of them asked.
Hours later, Gage was still trying to decide whether he could be okay with those conditions.
The knock at his kitchen door scattered the thoughts. Gage slid off his stool and opened the curtain. Cole smiled at him through the window. Gage let him in.
"Hi." Cole kissed him, a large box in his arms, a reusable grocery bag dangling from one shoulder, and his earlier concern still snagged in his expression. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine." He offered a smile and closed the door.
"Good. I brought you something." Cole carried the box to the table and set everything down.
"You didn't have to do that."
"I'm pretty sure I did." Cole pulled out his keys and used them to cut the packing tape. "I promised I'd get you on a push-button diet of real food." He opened the flaps and pulled back a layer of what looked like thick reflective bubble wrap. "I had to guess at the menu. If you don't like it, you can change it before the next delivery." Cole removed a large ice pack to reveal a collection of small trays, each in a cardboard sleeve with a company's name and logo printed on it. "The cooking instructions are on the side." Cole handed him one of the meals. "Pick what you're in the mood to eat, stick it in the microwave, press a button, and you're done. These," Cole patted the bag, "are premade salad bowls. We'll put them all right here," Cole gathered several of them and opened the refrigerator, "next to your beloved protein shakes."
"Thank you. I appreciate it, but you didn't have to do that."
Cole shut the refrigerator. "I did. I worry about you, Bear." Cole rested a hand against his cheek. "Especially after this morning. You obviously need someone to look after you."
"Yeah, I need to talk to you about that. This morning wasn't what you thought."
"What was it?"
Gage picked up a few more sleeves from the carton to have something to focus on besides Cole's face.
"I saw you kiss Zyon," Gage tucked them in the refrigerator, "and I kind of lost it."
"What do you mean?"
Gage closed the refrigerator again and returned to the table.
