« Chapter 8 »
Nathan
Waiting in a room full of fashion designers and ‘trendsetters’ early in the morning on a Monday was not my idea of fun.
Once I had found out that the mystery girl had an internship at this Haus place, I knew I needed to find a way into the place. Luckily, Penny had friends in high places and managed to somehow get me in here.
I was hoping to get away with doing as little amount of work here as possible. As I placed myself into the corner of the conference room looking towards the door, waiting for the not-human human girl to walk into the room, I caught a few appreciative stares from some of the girls in the room.
Girls were always easy for me to get. It helped that I was decently attractive, but even if I didn’t have that, getting girls was a matter of mental chess.
The right placed compliment, a light touch and maybe some intelligent conversations and any girl could be yours. Tactic. It always comes down to tactic and charm.
I had both in surplus.
However, right now I was bored, tired, and a bit hungry. I couldn’t remember the last time I had fed, trying to recount my last meal as I waited for my mystery girl to show.
I couldn’t remember the last time I fed, I realized with a start.
I needed to call up Penny and go out to a club ASAP.
A hungry Nathan was never a good Nathan to be around.
Suddenly my eyes snapped up, refocusing quickly as if I had been called by name.
There was the mystery girl. She had been checking me out, I realize as I spot two perfect circles of red bloom across her cheeks.
Waiting for her eyes to come back to my face—they were lingering on my chest for a while—I sent her a wink once I caught her eyes.
She broke out into a blush and I don’t even try to stop the smirk I felt forming on my lips.
Mystery girl jerked herself as if needing to physically shake herself to get her eyes off me, turning to someone next to her and starting a conversation.
I can hear the erratic beat of her heart, and I make my way towards her, stalking her through the crowd of interns.
I watch as she turned to look back at the corner I had stood in earlier; her heart actually skipping a beat as she realized I was no longer there.
I can’t contain my curiosity any longer, “Looking for me?” I ask the shy mystery girl. I had moved to be right next to her.
I watched as the small girl jumped in surprise at the sound of my voice, holding in my laughter. She was an amusing specimen.
She had a name, and a beautiful one at that. As she shyly placed her smaller hand in mine I felt a jolt pass through me. I had never felt anything like it and I was momentarily taken by surprise.
Definitely not human—but I already knew that.
