He was a wolf.
Sadie went to bed next to a man and woke up next to a wolf tangled in clothing. Not that he knew that yet, she had woken up before him. Tyson had told her earlier that he had a problem with changing in his sleep when he didnât feel he had control. He had done a run around the cabin every hour last night. It reminded her of when he was just Fred to her and would go out for his perimeter checks. Those runs were his way of trying to find control.
She worried about him. Whoever this wolf was that was following them, they were getting to him and she didnât appreciate that. Tyson had a battle raging inside of him at all times. He didnât need this stress on top of everything else.
His black nose was puffing out air onto her face. In both forms, she found that Tyson was a bed hog. He liked to lay in the middle of whatever bed they had and would sleep on top of her if she got in the way. At least as a man he could cuddle with her but as a wolf, his four legs tended to get tangled in amongst hers.
Sadie ran a hand over his face. She scratched the soft fur under his ears, a spot she knew he liked. Tyson groaned in his sleep, which made her smile. He rolled over onto his back, his belly fully exposed. As a wolf, she knew all of his spots he liked to be petted or scratched. Would he have those same spots as a man? Images of Sadie scratching under Tysonâs chin as they watched TV came to her. She laughed softly to herself and scratched his belly trying to find the one spot that would make his leg go wild and his eyes roll back.
It was on his rib cage so she began there. A little scratch here, another one there. When his back paw twitched, she knew she was close. Sadie rubbed fast and laughed when his leg kept up with her fingers. His face told her he was in heaven right now.
She continued for a moment more before stopping. Tyson opened his eyes and looked at her with a happy grin on his wolfy face.
âMorning. Did someone enjoy his belly rubs?â she said in the voice pet owners used on their furry children.
Tyson stared at her and then blinked, understanding coming to him. But it wasnât until he looked down at his body that he completely realized he was a wolf.
âAnything you want to talk about?â she asked. âI take it you arenât feeling very much in control of yourself right now. Andâ¦hey, donât give me that look. There is no shame in changing in your sleep. Remember you are talking to a newbie here, I am in no place to judge.â
The air changed as he started the shift. Sadie waited. She didnât watch hoping to give him some privacy but considering they were under the same sleeping bag, it wasnât much.
