The team celebrated their win at Boston University in the guest locker room. Coach Jay entered the locker room with three of his assistant coaches. The team cheered as they entered. The coaches began to congratulate each player for their victory.
“Now that’s how you win a game!” Coach Jay started. “They never had the chance. Good job fellas!” The team simmered down as the coach began his speech. “First off, congratulations to the seniors; you guys did an amazing thing and you showed Boston U how to kick ass before you leave a school. And this is something you are going to remember for the rest of your lives.” The team applauded once again.
“Overall, we had a great season. We fell short a few games but nothing that we couldn’t make up for. Some people even started doubting this team. Now, here’s what we can do; we can either satisfy those folks by saying ‘I told you so’, or we can build on this and take it all home! We can take home the championship win and make everybody sorry they ever doubted us!”
The team cheered as the coach hyped up the players. They chanted and continued their celebration. “Tolim, follow me I’ve got someone I want you to meet.” Coach Jay said. Shakeem followed him out of the locker room and into a small conference room across the hall.
“This is Stew Reynolds, the assistant coach for the Boston Celtics.”
“Great game tonight, son. What was that, 32 points
you’ve scored?” Stew asked as he shook Shakeem’s hand. “Thank you, sir.” Shakeem replied.
“Shall we?” Coach gestured for the three of them to have
a seat at the round table.
“I’ve been hearing a lot about you. And from what I’ve
seen tonight your coach has definitely been on point.” Stew
started.
“I would like to say that I owe most of it to coach. He
pushes me until Ican’t go no more…and pushes some
more.” Shakeem said. The men shared a laughed. “That’s what you call a great coach. Shakeem, I would like
for you to come and train with the Celtics, and show the
other coaches what you showed me today, how’s that
sound?”
“Are you serious?” Shakeem asked in shock.
“As a heart attack son.” Stew replied. “I think you’ve got
the moves to make it in the NBA.”
“Wow! Thank you, sir!” Shakeem said. “I'm... It would be
a pleasure to.”
“His loyalty to the team is beyond great.” Coach Jay
added. “The best team captain I've had in years.” Shakeem fought to keep a smile on his face as Coach
Jay’s words hit him like a metal bat. He knew his actions
were far from loyal. He knew he couldn't change what he did
but he was definitely going to put a stop to it.
**** Travis sat in his car in front of Corin’s apartment building. Before he tells Shakeem about Corin, he wanted to confront her about everything he saw. He knew that it was going to be her word against his, and knowing Shakeem, Corin couldn’t do any wrong in his eyes. Travis had been waiting there a little over an hour hoping that she would arrive soon.
