My phone was blaring beside me, dragging me from some much-needed sleep. I rarely got to sleep in, especially on weekends. My parents made it a mission to have me up before seven A.M. on the weekends. It was like being in prison here.

But at least in prison I could get fucked in my ass without someone spewing religious bullshit at me.

“Somebody better be dying,” I growled into the phone after I saw Noah’s name on the screen.

“No one is dying,” he told me with a laugh. “It’s after eleven. Why are you still in bed, bro?”

“Some of us fucking need sleep,” I growled. My head was hurting. My body screamed with every move I made. I wasn’t in the mood for his happy-go-lucky bullshit this morning, afternoon, whatever the fuck time of day it currently was.

“There’s a party tonight. I want you to come. Pretty sure you can use the distraction after the shit first week you’ve had at school.”

I groaned. A party. I hated crowds, but I knew I could loosen up safely there. Couldn’t do that in this shithole of a house, even if my family was gone to who-the-fuck-knew-where.

“What time?” I asked, scratching my bare stomach. I grimaced when I felt every ridge of my ribs. Fuck, I was losing too much weight.

“I’ll pick you up at ten tonight. Sound good?”

“I guess,” I muttered. “See you then.”

I hung up the phone and got my ass out of bed. I managed to find some Tylenol and swallowed it down before I walked outside to roll up and smoke. I was hoping this would take the edge off. It had worked yesterday morning, but I was feeling a hell of a lot worse today.

After smoking, I went back into the house and up to my room, crashing back into bed for a few more hours. Needing this much sleep after a concussion probably wasn’t a good thing, but oh well. If getting knocked in the head by a football killed me, then so fucking be it.
