Hot Rod—and hot rodding—continued to face challenges throughout the 1970s. Tighter regulations and stricter equipment requirements combined with other major stumbling blocks, such as the alleged gas shortages of 1973 and 1979 that reinforced fuel economy mandates. By the 1980s, though, changes were on the way that every hot rodder could celebrate.
