HOPE HAD BEEN FLYING all day, and it was nearly dark. Her wings ached for rest. Scanning her surroundings, she spotted a hollow log on the ground that looked safe and suitable. She glided down toward the forest floor. After checking for predators, she settled into a patch of moss at the bottom of the log. It wasn’t long before she settled into a deep sleep.

Hope’s dreams were chaotic. Where’s Hope? Her mother was panicking. What about the prophecy? Faith whispered. We... we need her. A voice echoed. After a brief and restless sleep, she awoke, tears in her eyes. Her mind was bogged with conflicting thoughts, and with a powerful homesickness. Why would they depend on me? Hope had buckled under the pressure. She had left the hive, flying in a straight line to the north, and she had gotten lost. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to be found, or if she wanted to never be seen again. How am I supposed to be what they want me to be? I can’t! They have to be mistaken. I am no one special. I’m a young and inexperienced bee. I have nothing to offer. I’m scared. I don’t want this!
