Chapter Nine
âMERRY CHRISTMAS!â PHOENIX cheered as Gigi and Adam walked into a packed Shenanigans 1.
âItâs Merry Christmas Eve, my love,â Travis called from the bar.
She waved her hand in the air and called back, âSemantics,â then flung her arms around Gigi. âGirl, Iâm so happy to see you. And you too, Adam.â
She dropped to her knees to hug JoJo. âYou, though, my darling, I am the happiest of all to see. Such a sweetie!â She popped back up and exclaimed, âYou guys got your happily ever after just in time. Look!â She pointed toward the giant Christmas tree standing at the center of the bar, in the exact spot where Adam and Gigi had eaten dinner that glorious, magical night not so long before. âChristmas is here!â She threw up her arms in excitement, then without waiting for a reply, bounded away.
Gigi giggled.
âWhat a nut,â Adam muttered.
âOh, but look at this place, Adam. Itâs beautiful!â And it was. Glory, Phoenix and Travis had decorated the bar so that it positively sparkled with good cheer.
The Christmas tree was lit with different colors of lights and bulbs and beneath it were piles of gaily wrapped packages.
The menorah that had been lit in the days of Hanukkah still sat in its place of honor at one end of the bar and the kinara whose candles would be lit in the days of Kwanzaa to come sat at the other end.
Christmas lights were strung along every wall and miniature Christmas trees were scattered on tables everywhere.
A squeal from the bar drew Gigiâs attention and she grinned. Travis had dragged Phoenix up onto the bar and was now kissing her beneath the mistletoe that hung there.
Now that Gigi was paying attention, she realized mistletoe was hung strategically throughout the bar and many of the shifters were taking advantage of that fact.
âThere you two are.â Agatha hurried over, grabbed Gigiâs hands and kissed her on both cheeks. âWeâve been waiting forever for you to arrive. Come on.â She dragged Gigi past the giant Christmas tree toward where the women and men of the pack were gathered.
Gigi glanced over her shoulder and saw Adam was following with a smile on his face.
An hour later, Gigi was sitting at a table, discussing plans for the new year with the women of the pack, when Agatha turned to her and said, âYou know, this is the first time Adam has ever joined our holiday celebration here in the bar.â
âReally?â Gigi glanced over to where Adam stood, laughing and talking with some of his friends.
âItâs true.â Betina joined the conversation. "Heâs always been too busy working.â
âHe used to say if he wanted to take Christmas Day off, heâd have to work long into the night,â Agatha said.
âBut thatâs ridiculous,â Gigi exclaimed. âHe didnât say anything about needing to work today. He took the entire day to spend with me.â
âBecause youâve made him happy, my dear. Youâve given him a reason to share the work load and to slow down.â Agatha blinked back tears.
