Chapter 14
Kaylyn couldn’t stop grinning. It was New Year’s Eve and for the first time in a long time, she had someone to celebrate it with. Henry and Eleanor were keeping things low-key, so they’d agreed to let Jaden stay with them. That meant that she and Dalton would have a full night to themselves since making things between them official.
Last night she’d felt comfortable enough to bring Jaden with her to Dalton’s place for dinner. It’d meant that she’d had to go home frustrated, but she and Dalton were not at the stage where she wanted to expose Jaden to that part of their relationship.
Dalton only had a week before he left for the first three rodeo events that he was going to take part in. While a part of her wondered what that would mean she did her best to push that apprehension aside to focus on the present.
And right now, she was enjoying the sensual feel of his hands gliding up and down her back as he rubbed the tight muscles in her lower back. He hadn’t wasted any time getting her naked the moment she walked into his home, but not for the reason she’d originally expected.
He’d placed several comfortable blankets on the rug in front of the fireplace and soft music played in the background. But the real magic was the way his hands felt as they glided along her skin. The oil added a sensual feel to his calloused hands. The combined sensation was a second away from putting her to sleep if she didn’t do something.
“Okay. It’s your turn,” she mumbled.
His hands paused. “This is for you.”
“I know, but I want to explore your body as well. This is a perfect opportunity for me to do so.”
He leaned down and placed a kiss on her shoulder. “Who am I to deny you what you desire?”
As he eased back, she forced herself to her knees, her body feeling more relaxed than it had in a long time. But then Dalton stretched out in front of her on his stomach and all thoughts of going to sleep left her. He was a gorgeous specimen of a man. Natural muscles that had been developed over time from ranch work and the rodeo circuit. She couldn’t wait to get her hands on him.
Kaylyn straddled him as she held the open bottle of what massage oil over his back. She laughed softly as she said, “I had no idea this would be how we’d spend New Year’s Eve.”
“I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year,” he replied.
Kaylyn tipped the bottle to dribble oil over his back, and he hissed at what must have been the too-cool temperature. It hadn’t felt that cold to her, then again, he had warmed the oil between the palms of his hands. That might be a better option.
Filling her palm with a final small pool, she set the bottle on the nightstand, then rubbed her palms together briskly to at least warm that.
