Chapter 12
BLAIRE
His whispered words send goose bumps skittering across my skin, and at the same time, my entire body heats, like Iâm standing in the center of a blazing inferno.
Maybe itâs the Grinches.
His grip tightens around me, and I have to clench my thighs to keep from telling him Iâm more interested in a horizontal dance.
Too many Grinches, for sure.
âYes.â The single word comes out on a shaky breath.
The rumble of his laughter vibrates against my neck, sending lust coursing through my veins. I squeeze my eyes shut, and he slides his hand across my waist and down my thigh to grab my hand. Before I melt into a puddle right in front of the bar, he leads me toward the dance floor.
Iâm about to dance with my boss.
Itâs simultaneously the most exhilarating and terrifying prospect in the world.
Archie twirls me around the floor, then pulls me close. All I can do is smile like a lunatic, the boozy Grinches doing away with any inhibition I may have had.
We sway side to side effortlessly, our bodies melded together like theyâre meant to be that way, moving in time with the slow, sensual song playing. Itâs easy to forget where we are, all the people surrounding us, when weâre like this. Itâs easy to think about things that are far too dangerous to be considering.
What would being with Archie be like?
I bet heâs attentive and would never miss an anniversary. Heâs a man of details. He never forgets an appointment, a name, a fact. He knows more about his workday than I do, and Iâm the one whoâs paid to keep up with it.
And after what he did for me tonight, donning this sweater I know he thinks is absolutely ridiculous, Iâm confident he would treat me like a queen.
I rest my head on his chest, close my eyes, and sway back and forth to the beat of the music.
Was Brandy right? Did the snow globe mean more than Iâm willing to acknowledge?
I inhale the wonderful scent thatâs all Archieâleather and spiceâand listen to his heart beating in time with the music.
His left hand strokes my lower back softly, barely even brushing my skin. But Iâm more aware of that touch than anything Iâve ever experienced in my life. Every nerve ending fires, centered on the place where his fingers flit over my back.
He squeezes my hand tenderly and leads us flawlessly across the dance floor. Of course, he can dance. I shouldnât be surprised, but the effortless way he moves is impressive, nonetheless.
The sereneness of being here in his arms almost washes away all the distress of the week, but all too soon, the song ends, and a more upbeat tempo begins to play.
âLetâs get something to drink.â He twirls me again and leads me off the dance floor toward the bar with his hand in mine.
I canât stop grinning like a total idiot. âI had no idea you can dance so well.â
Itâs impressive. And sexy as hell.
âAh, Miss Hall, I have many tricks up my sleeves.
