The City That Never Sleeps Never Lies

I LOVE NEW York City. It truly is the greatest city in the world—in my opinion. One of my favorite things about this place is that New Yorkers can’t lie. They’re so honest they might offend you with the truth.

I can always tell the songs or SNL sketches or films that I’ve been a part of that register with the masses more than others when I’m walking the streets of downtown NYC. I’m talking about straight-up catcalling.

Them to me: “Hey, JT! Loved you in the Facebook movie.”

Me to me: It’s called The Social Network. Whatevs.

Me to them: “Thanks, man!”

Them to me: “Hey, JT! I got my dick in a box.”

Me to me: ???

Me to them: “Please don’t put that there. It was just a joke.”

And then there was the time when I crossed paths with a UPS delivery guy who shouted out, “Hey, JT! I’m bringing sexy back!” This was particularly funny to me because we all know what a UPS uniform looks like: his shorts … were … short. Really short.

If he truly felt that way, at that moment, in that outfit, then damn it my instinct was right on that song, and I was creating something that wasn’t just a proclamation for me but for anyone and everyone.

If hindsight really is 20/20, at least the UPS guy wasn’t claiming to have his dick in a box. That would just be scary.
