Ava and my grandfather went to the store to buy groceries and food for Midnight. It slipped her mind to bring along his litter box and any of his other necessities, so for the time being, there was a pile of newspapers in a corner of the kitchen for him.
I looked at him, as he ate noodles in a bowl that Ava had made. I didn't know that cats ate ramen and Ava said that he also liked chicken. It was very strange to me, and he creeped me out when his eyes fixated on my face.
"Why are you staring at the cat?" Mom walked over to me and placed her hand on my shoulder. I furrowed my brows and looked at her.
"Can't you see that he's the one staring at me?" I accused and pointed my finger toward him.
"He's a cat, cat's stare," she shrugged, before walking over to the fur animal and picking him up, "and he's such a cutie," mom caressed the top of his head with her fingers.
He purred, causing mom to pull him closer and he nuzzled his head into the crook of her neck.
"He seems to like you," I mumbled, before crossing my arms over my chest.
"Midnight loves everyone," I heard Ava's voice, as she entered the kitchen, carrying a large bag of cat food. I ran over to her and grabbed the bag, before placing it on the kitchen counter. She let out a deep breath, as I turned to face her, "okay missy, since you think you're so strong, come help me get the rest of things," I nodded and walked behind her, out of the house and toward grandpa's truck, "Grandpa, I told you I would handle it," my grandfather was fetching a fifty-pound bag of cat litter.
"I can handle it, I'm not that old," he proceeded to carry it into the house. Ava let out a loud sigh, before grabbing a few bags from the vehicle and handing them to me.
"That's it," she shut the truck door and we both headed into the house.
"Dad, you're going to break your back," I heard mom say, as we neared the kitchen.
"Jaclyn, I'm not helpless," he grumbled, as we entered and placed the bags on the countertop, along with everything else.
"Oh, I forgot the litter box in the trunk," Ava ran out of the kitchen. I sighed and scanned the items, which were groceries and stuff for Midnight. "Midnight, I got you a new litter box," Ava entered the kitchen and placed the item down on the ground, before taking in deep breaths, "it automatically cleans itself," she continued, before placing her hands on her sides.

AFTER SETTING UP Midnight's litter box, putting away everything and having dinner, it was time for bed. Mom was leaving the next day, and I was honestly happy that she was getting back to her normal routine. The wedding wasn't too far away and she needed to prepare as well.
I confided in her about my plans to graduate early.
