Diane raced into Yonic Horizons with only thirty minutes to spare before her meeting with Mr. Keller. Knowing that she didn’t need to be at the clinic until noon, Diane stopped to grab a coffee and lunch to go, but on her way to the hospital, Diane had gotten stuck in a traffic jam. Now she was in a hurry to get into her office and prepare her notes regarding the fundraiser to present more information to her boss.

She hurried down the hall with her coffee in hand when Diane heard a voice behind her.

“Good afternoon, Diane, how are you?” Diane turned around in haste to see Lacey Harris. In a rushed tone, she replied, “Oh, hi! I’m good, thanks. Just getting into the office to get ready to meet with Nick.”

In front of her employees, Diane would never use Mr. Keller’s first name, but since she and Lacey had shared an intimate past and shared the same hierarchy in terms of positions at the hospital, she felt it was okay to call Mr. Keller his first name in front of Dr. Harris.

“Ah, yes. Good old Nick,” Lacey chuckled. Dr. Harris, like Diane, knew how stiff and conservative Mr. Keller could be. “Were you surprised that he approved the plan for your fundraiser?”

Usually, Diane wouldn’t mind chit-chatting with Lacey for a moment whenever she had the time, but today was not the day. She was already stressed from the traffic jam and wanted to be alone in her office to get organized.

“Mm-hmm,” Diane replied dismissively. “Sorry, Lace, I just need a few minutes to—” Before Diane could finish her sentence, Dr. Harris interjected, “I heard you had some of the clinic staff over to your place last night for an ‘informal brainstorm.’ How did it go?” Lacey used finger quotes to punctuate her statement, and Diane detected a note of bitterness in her voice.

An alarmed feeling shot through Diane. Before ending their affair, Diane started to get the sense that Lacey had a jealous streak, and it was part of the reason that Diane wanted to cease their sexual relations before their situation got out of hand. But Diane also knew that the kiss between her and Terra would have been strictly prohibited at the hospital, so she needed to tread lightly. How the hell did she even know that? I swear, that woman can be so nosy sometimes!

Taking a breath, Diane centered herself, trying to instill patience. Taking a seat, she waved Lacey into her office. “Listen, if you want to chat, please come in here so we can talk while I am gathering my notes.” Diane softened her tone and added apologetically, “I’m sorry, but I really am short on time today.”

But Lacey appeared nonplussed, sauntering casually into Diane’s office, closing the door behind her. “Sure, happy to. I don’t want to take up too much of your time. It’s just been a while since we’ve had time to chat.” Lacey then rested her ass on the corner
