“THEY LOOK GOOD together,” Reese said as she and Bowie sat by the fire after everyone left.

“Ford and Dove?”

“Who else?”

Bowie linked his fingers with Reese. As a slight frown formed between his brows, he raised her hand to his lips.

“Dove is a client.”

“I understand your Lost and Found code of conduct. But in the long list of rules, show me one that says Ford can’t fall in love with the woman who pays his salary.”

“Love?” Bowie scoffed at the idea. “First, they barely know each other. Second, Ford doesn’t believe the emotion exists.”

“Ford loves you. And Kyle. And Zander.”

“Mostly, we’re just friends.”

“Ha, ha. First,” Reese began in a teasing tone. “How long did it take for you to fall for me?”

“We’re different.”

“How long?”

“About five seconds,” Bowie admitted.

“I knew in an instant.” Reese lay her head on his chest. The beat of Bowie’s heart was the only balm for her soul she would ever need. “Second, Ford might not understand what’s happening, but he’s falling. The way she looked at him when he came down the stairs, all tuxedoed up, Dove isn’t far behind.”

“Lust,” Bowie said with an understanding laugh. “Not the same thing.”

“You’re right. And so am I.” Reese patted Bowie’s leg. “Prepare yourself, Papa Bear. One of your cubs is about to take a tumble.”

“What if Dove breaks his heart?”

“Ford might do the breaking. Or, like us, they’ll find a way to make things work. No guarantees.”

Bowie placed a finger under Reese’s chin, tipped her head, and held her gaze.

“Are you trying to tell me something?”

“I love you.” Reese pressed a warm kiss to Bowie’s lips. “I want to spend the rest of my life right here, by your side.”

“Suddenly, I’m nervous.”

“Don’t be.”

Reese slid from the couch onto one knee. Reaching into her pocket, she removed a velvet-covered box. Flipping the lid, she took out a platinum band.

“Bowie Cross. Will you marry me?”

“Jesus, Reese.” Bowie swept her into his arms. “I thought you’d never ask.”
